MINIMALLY INVASIVE LUMBAR DECOMPRESSION
mild® Procedure
Treatment Overview
The mild® Procedure is a minimally invasive treatment designed to relieve back and leg pain caused by lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS). This approach is especially advantageous for those seeking to avoid the risks and lengthy recovery periods linked to more invasive spinal surgeries.
How the Procedure Works
The mild® procedure is a brief, outpatient treatment for lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS) that restores space within the spinal canal. Utilizing specialized tools and imaging, mild® targets a key cause of LSS by removing thickened ligaments through an incision smaller than a baby aspirin. The procedure leaves no implants, requiring only a small Band-Aid afterward.
Who Benefits from the mild® Procedure
If you have lumbar spinal stenosis and haven’t achieved relief with conservative treatments, you might be eligible for the mild® procedure if:
- You have been diagnosed with lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS)
- You feel pain in your lower back, legs or buttocks when you stand or walk upright
- Your pain or discomfort is relieved when you bend forward, sit or lie down
The mild® Procedure has a safety profile similar to epidural steroid injections but with lasting results. Individuals typically return to normal activity within 24 hours with no restrictions.*
What to Expect
- Preparation: The mild® procedure is performed in our same-day surgery center. Local anesthesia or sedation may be administered to ensure your comfort.
- Procedure: Your provider will make a tiny incision in your lower back and use specialized imaging to guide the removal of thickened ligament tissue, restoring space in the spinal canal. The procedure usually lasts less than an hour.
- Recovery: After the procedure, you’ll be monitored for a short time. A small bandage will cover the incision, and you can typically return home the same day and resume normal activities shortly after.
