Setting Pain Management Goals

Start the New Year on the Right Foot

January 2025

Small wins lead to big victories

Have you heard the saying, “Slow and steady wins the race?” This saying easily relates to goal setting. Let’s say you are brand new to running and your goal is to run a marathon, you aren’t going to sign up for a race the week after you start training. It would be best to set small, attainable goals that will help you achieve your big goal. Start by running around the block a few times a week, then increase the distance, and so on. Meeting smaller goals helps give you the confidence and energy to continue toward your end goal.

Write it down

Research has shown that you are 42% more likely to achieve your goals if they are written down. I don’t know about you, but I like those chances. Find a small notebook, pad of paper, or even type it in your notes app on your phone. Being able to see your goals in written form can help you stay focused and motivated to work towards them.

Keep your support close

Managing pain can feel overwhelming, especially if you are facing it alone. Make sure you have a support system of family and friends that you can lean on throughout your pain management journey.
