REAL PEOPLE, REAL STORIES

Meet Darrius

Darrius’s life changed dramatically when, out of nowhere, standing became difficult, walking turned impossible, and he found himself reliant on a wheelchair. At just 20 years old, while working in downtown Minneapolis, he began experiencing strange pains in the bottoms of his feet. What started as a mild discomfort quickly escalated over the months, making it unbearable for him to stand for even a few minutes.

Nura Understands Your Pain

Seeking medical help, Darrius was diagnosed with a rare condition called Complex Regional Pain Syndrome that caused his nerves to misinterpret touch and pressure as intense pain. Even wearing clothes felt like an acid burn on his skin. Traditional treatments offered little to no relief, and his condition worsened, confining him to a wheelchair.

The impact on Darrius’s life was profound. Newly married, he and his wife never experienced the typical honeymoon phase; instead, they were thrust into a world dominated by chronic pain and the struggles of caregiving. As his children grew, Darrius longed to join them in playing sports or enjoying a day at the park. However, his condition confined him to the sidelines, watching from his wheelchair.

When Darrius found Nura, he was identified as a candidate for targeted drug delivery with a spinal pain pump and scheduled for a trial. Just two weeks after a successful trial, he underwent surgery, and within a few months, his life began to change. He transitioned from a wheelchair to a walker and eventually to a cane. For Darrius, the difference was immediate and profound.

Reflecting on his journey, Darrius wishes he had found Nura sooner. The care he received not only alleviated his pain but also restored his ability to walk and enjoy life with his family. While he still lives with the nerve disease, Darrius now experiences life in a way that once seemed impossible.
