In the 1980s, Dr. David Schultz, a practicing anesthesiologist, became increasingly aware of the need to treat chronic pain patients with a more comprehensive approach.
With the goal of helping chronic pain patients who had failed routine medical management, he founded MAPS, Minnesota’s first chronic pain management clinic in 1995.
The team at MAPS soon confirmed that treating the mind and body as well as the specific cause of the pain resulted in the highest levels of success.
After a decade, Dr. Schultz sold MAPS in order to realize his vision of bringing the approach to more and more patients. Ultimately, Dr. Schultz and the new ownership did not see eye to eye on the value of that comprehensive approach, and Dr. Schultz bought the clinic back, re-launching it in 2018 under the name Nura (after “nurture,” one of our core values).
Today, Nura operates clinics in Edina and Coon Rapids, with a staff that’s 100% committed to fulfilling the original vision of Dr. Schultz: to serve as the ultimate resource for Minnesotans dealing with chronic pain.
